What brands ask us before their first edibles run: minimums, barrier, sealing and what actually keeps the product the way you made it.
One hundred per design for stand-up pouches, flat pouches and pillow pouches. Side gusset, quad seal and flat bottom bags start at 500 per design. Every flavor, strength or pack count with its own artwork is its own design, so two flavors at two strengths is four designs and 400 bags. On digital print the designs do not have to run at the same quantity. Your best seller can run higher while a slower flavor stays at 100. That lets you launch the full menu in printed bags without sitting on stock of the SKU that moves slowest.
Yes, on flat pouches and stand-up pouches. We offer a child-resistant zipper on both, and it goes onto the same printed bag, with the same barrier film, that you would otherwise order. A pillow pouch takes no zipper of any kind, so a single-dose pack that needs a child-resistant closure has to be a small flat pouch or a stand-up pouch instead. Tick the child-resistant zipper on the quote and we build the bag around it from the start. Your whole range then sits in one printed bag family, with no plain bags and stickers for the SKUs that need the closure.
Two jobs, and the sweet itself sets the first. Gummies are a moisture problem. If moisture escapes they go hard and a sugar bloom comes up, which our candy packaging page covers in detail. An infused product adds a second job, because cannabinoids break down under light. That is why a metallized film is our default for edibles, with solid aluminum foil as the step up when stock sits for months. Chocolate carries fat, so oxygen and light count for it as well. Cover both jobs and the last piece in the bag looks and tastes like the first.
Yes, in three ways. A window in a metallized bag shows the product and keeps the barrier everywhere else. A clear front with a metallized back shows more and still covers the back, on a stand-up or flat pouch. A fully clear bag shows everything and blocks no light at all, which matters more for an infused product than for plain candy. Windows work on stand-up and flat pouches and on a clear pillow pouch. For a metallized or kraft pillow pouch with a window, ask us when you quote. Keep the window small and you get the impulse buy without leaving the whole pack under the shop lights.
Match the bag to how the product gets eaten. A single dose or a sample goes in a small flat pouch or a pillow pouch with a tear notch, opened once. A multi-dose bag of gummies goes in a stand-up pouch with a zipper, because it gets opened again and again, and that is where a child-resistant zipper earns its place. A chocolate or cereal bar goes in a flat pouch sized to the bar: its width plus its thickness, plus clearance and the side seams. If a co-packer fills on a form-fill-seal line, we print roll film at the same minimums, starting at 100.
Tell us how many pieces go in and the size of one piece, or the fill weight if you sell by weight. A counted pack is sized around the pieces themselves. Loose gummies pour like any bulk product, and by our sizing engine's figures eight ounces of gummy bears lands around a 5.7 by 8.7 inch stand-up pouch with a 3 inch bottom gusset. Our bag sizing tool takes the same inputs. If you already have a size in mind, we quote yours and ours side by side, so you can see the difference before a print run is committed.
The layer against your edibles is food-grade polyethylene or cast polypropylene, and the inks sit on the outside of the laminate with the barrier layers between them and the product. We can supply a Certificate of Analysis, a food contact declaration and a safety data sheet on request. Ask for them with the quote and they arrive with the order. Keep them on file with your batch records, and the packaging question is already answered when a new retailer or distributor asks it.
There is, with a trade you should know first. Our recyclable bags are mono-PE, plain or with an EVOH layer, because a recyclable bag has to be made from one plastic family. A standard metallized or clear laminate bonds different plastics together and is not recyclable. Both recyclable films are clear, so they give up the light barrier an infused product benefits from, and neither is our strongest film on moisture. If a recycling claim matters more to your brand than the longest shelf life, we will quote it next to a metallized bag so you can weigh the two.
