PET, or polyethylene terephthalate, is a strong, lightweight, and temperature-resistant plastic material. Manufacturers produce PET by polymerizing ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. We commonly use PET in commercial packaging, including bottles, jars, and trays, due to its excellent barrier properties against moisture and gasses. PET combined with other materials develops improved barrier performance and heat sealability. Additionally, PET is recyclable and can be melted and reprocessed into new products, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
