What brands ask us before their first fertilizer run: minimums, barrier, sealing and what actually keeps the product the way you made it.
One hundred per design for stand-up pouches, flat pouches and pillow pouches. Side gusset, quad seal and flat bottom bags start at 500 per design. Each bag size carries its own artwork, so a 1 lb bag and a 5 lb bag are two designs. Those minimums are for digital print. A very large bag can go past what digital presses print. It may then move to gravure, where the minimum is much higher and depends on the size. We tell you which applies when we quote, so you can plan a launch around real numbers.
Give us the volume if you know it, not just the weight. A pound of light potting mix takes far more room than a pound of mineral fertilizer granules, and a damp mix packs differently from a dry one. If you sell by the dry quart or the cubic foot, that is the number we want. If you only know the weight, tell us exactly what the product is and whether it goes in damp or dry. We size the bag from that. If you already have a size in mind, we quote yours and ours side by side, so you do not pay for a bag that sits half empty.
It can, if the film is chosen for the fill and not just the look. We do not publish a weight rating for any film. For heavy bags we can step up to a thicker film. Where the mix has bark, pumice or grit in it, we can add a nylon layer, which resists puncture and flexing far better than polyethylene alone. A flat bottom or quad seal bag stands on a square base under the weight. Either can take a carry handle, and so can stand-up and side gusset bags. Leave the hang hole off anything heavy. Tell us the fill weight and the ingredients when you quote, and we build the bag around them.
Keep damp air out, because granules and powders pull in moisture and set into lumps. A metallized film is our standard for an opaque bag, and it is strong on moisture. For a clear bag, the usual answer is a three-layer BOPP/PET/CPP moisture film. Kraft is a paper look, and the barrier comes from the metallized liner inside it. If you pack a synthetic fertilizer or a liquid, ask us when you quote, with your product's SDS. After that, the heat seal across the top matters as much as the film, and a zipper keeps the bag shut once it is open. That is what keeps the last scoop as loose as the first.
Yes. People buying soil like to see the texture before they pay, and a window shows it. A window is a cut-out with clear film behind it, so that one area gives up the barrier the rest of the bag has. Keep it big enough to show the product and no bigger. On kraft, a window means a clear liner behind the paper instead of the metallized one, and we can quote a clear barrier liner if the bag has to last. Stand-up, flat, flat bottom and quad seal bags all take a window. On a pillow or side gusset bag, ask us when you quote.
Both exist, and both come with a trade. The compostable bag is PBAT in brown or white kraft. It holds out less moisture, so it suits a product that sells through quickly, and it is a poor match for a fertilizer that cakes. The recyclable bag is mono-PE in clear gloss, plain or with an EVOH layer for more barrier. The EVOH version is not for damp product. A standard foil, clear or kraft laminate bonds different materials together and is not recyclable. If sustainability is part of your brand, we can quote the eco bag beside a standard one so you see the difference before you choose.
