This was the first time I ordered from Pouch.Me and I must say they have been pretty fantastic. The attention to details, and the direct assistance provided will keep me coming back for future purchases.

From the very first contact, working with the Pouch Me customer service team was nothing but exceptional! Every step of the process of developing a new bag, fine tuning the artwork, production, shipping and post shipping follow up has been a 10 on a scale of 1-10. We are now beginning a second and third new bag project with them.

Sean H.Rock Solid Nutrition

The packaging was sent in a timely manner, was vibrant in its colors and the print was much more crisp than a previous vendor.

I was on the hunt to produce pouches with a handle, something that many other companies could not offer. The Pouch Me team was extremely easy to work with while we went through multiple changes to dimension and design. Could not be happier with the final product!

Working with Pouch Me was an incredible experience! They are incredibly thorough so the process from design to the moment you get the final product in your hands is a long journey that is so satisfying and totally worth it in the end. My pouches came out beautiful! Jewel was a great problem solver—responsive, easy to work with, and always willing to hop on a call when needed. When the company…

I love the custom bags. They come in a timely manner, and they are willing to make last minute changes. They also do not leak and keep all my products fresh. My only complaint is that I asked them to move the hanging hole closer to the top, so I had more room to seal the bag. They moved it closer but they also changed the hole size and made it smaller. This now makes it really hard to fit on my…

Overall, I am very happy with the outcome and quality of the pouches I purchased. This was my first time ordering pouches of any kind, so my background knowledge was limited. Had I known what I know now, I would have adjusted my size a bit. I was very dependent on the design team at PouchMe, and they were very accommodating and I am super thankful for them. There was one tiny flaw that was shown…

What a pouch does that
a jar, tin or box cannot

Four reasons brands move to stand up pouch packaging.

Stand-up pouch held open showing the silver metalized barrier layer laminated inside the wall of the bag

The barrier is built into the wall

That silver layer is the shelf life. Glass lets light in. A box lets air in. This does neither.

Bright yellow and magenta stand-up pouch of chilli powder printed edge to edge with no white border or label

The whole bag is the label

Print runs corner to corner on three panels. No sticker to peel, no white border, no wasted face.

Empty stand-up pouch lying completely flat with the bottom gusset folded away

Empty, it is a sheet of paper

A thousand of these ship in a carton. A thousand jars ship on a pallet.

White custom printed stand-up pouch of dried oregano standing unaided on a kitchen bench with herbs scattered in front of it

Full, it stands up by itself

The base opens into an oval foot and the bag squares up to the shopper at eye level.

Order the wrong size
and you find out after it is printed

Custom stand up pouches are made to your dimensions, so the size is your decision. Too big and the bag slumps on the shelf; too small and product jams the seal. Neither is fixable once the run is on press, which is why Pouch.me sizes it before you pay.

Frosted stand-up pouch about 40 percent filled with coffee beans, showing how much empty bag is left above the product
Half full: too much bagIt leans on the shelf and shoppers read it as short measure.
Frosted stand-up pouch filled to about 85 percent with coffee beans, standing square with the seal area clear
Aim here: 70 to 90%Base spread, face flat, seal area clear.
Frosted stand-up pouch overfilled with coffee beans heaped above the open top, with beans that did not fit
Bursting: too little bagThere is no room left to seal it, so the line runs slower and more bags fail.
  1. The seal holds nothingThe welded band around the edge holds no product. The printed rectangle is always bigger than the volume inside it.
  2. Volume, not weightTwelve ounces of coffee and twelve ounces of popcorn need completely different bags. How densely your product packs is what sets the size.
  3. Product needs headroomGranules and powders settle in transit and need room to move. Fill to the brim and the bag cannot be sealed cleanly.

Seal styles, the three numbers, and the sizes we make

Corner seals only, so product sits flush on the film. The most stable at weight.

DimensionRange we makeMost orders
Width2.5″ – 18″5″ – 7″
Height3″ – 24″8″ – 10″
Gusset depth1.5″ – 8″Half the width

Keep a retail gusset at 2.5″ or more or the base is too narrow to stay steady once handled. Large is no problem. An 8″ × 11″ × 4″ bag is a common two-pound coffee size. Our guide to choosing a pouch size works through it step by step.

The look you want

Custom stand up pouches are printed on five classes of film, each available in more than one finish. This is the outside of the laminate, and it is the part a shopper sees on shelf.

Close-up of a matte foil pouch printed with gold type on tealClose-up of a gloss foil pouch printed with bold full-color artworkMatte/GlossFoilMetalized or true aluminum inside, chosen on how long the product has to hold and how much moisture and light it has to keep out. Matte, gloss, soft touch or spot finishes outside.

Runs plain, with nylon added when the bag needs to survive rough handling, or with an EVOH structure when it needs real oxygen barrier and still has to show the product.
Close-up of brown kraft pouches printed with illustrated coffee artworkBrown kraftPaper outside, laminate inside. Usually paired with a metalized or foil layer for freshness, and available with a compostable PBAT structure.

Shelf life is decided by the film,
not the bag

Underneath the print sits the barrier, and that is the layer that decides how long your product stays good. It is chosen separately from the look, because most of these pair with most of the films above. Pouch.me specifies it around your shelf life rather than handing you a menu.

Exploded diagram of a laminate pouch: an outer printable BOPP or PET film, a metalized VMPET or foil barrier layer, and an inner polyethylene layer that seals the bag and touches the food

Choosing the barrier for your shelf life

PENo added barrier3 to 6 monthsClear film with nothing added. For anything turned over fast, or sold cold.
VMPETMetalized9 to 12 monthsVaporized aluminum on polyester. This is the film most people mean when they say mylar bag. Our standard spec, and it covers most dry products comfortably.
KPETClear high barrier12 to 18 monthsA coated clear film. High barrier without metalizing, so the product still shows through.*
EVOHEVOHoxygen specialistThe best oxygen barrier we build, and it stays clear. Specified where oxygen is the thing that kills the product.
ALAluminum foil18 to 24+ monthsA true metal layer, and far and away the best of these at keeping moisture and light out.
Days to weeksMonths to years
NYNylonToughness, not barrierPuncture resistance, vacuum sealing, and film that stays flexible below freezing. Always combined with one of the barriers above, never used instead of one.
PBATCompostable PBATReplaces the laminateA compostable structure rather than a barrier added to one. Shorter shelf life, and it needs the right disposal route to mean anything.

* Clear high barrier is quoted case by case rather than held as a standard stock structure. Ask and Pouch.me will confirm availability and lead time for your size and run.

Not every pairing exists. Aluminum is opaque, so a fully clear bag cannot carry it across the face; that is what a clear-front, foil-back structure is for. Both aluminum and metalized read as foil on shelf, which is why Pouch.me quotes them together and chooses between them on what you are packing. Inside every structure is a polyethylene sealant layer that welds the bag shut and touches your product; it is the same on all of them and not a choice you have to make.

Two things worth knowing before you specify

A window costs you barrier across that area, so avoid it for anything light-sensitive. And a degassing valve on low-barrier film achieves nothing, because oxygen comes through the walls instead. Kraft is paper bonded to these same barrier layers, and it also runs as a compostable PBAT structure.

Food-contact compliant films. Supplied with third-party test reports against US FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 and 177.1630 and California Prop 65.

The details customers
actually notice

How it opens. Whether it closes again. Take what your product needs and leave the rest. Every extra is another thing to pay for.

Press-to-close resealable zipperStandard on this format. Opens and reseals with a pinch.
Close-up of a powder-resistant zipper track on a stand-up pouch
Powder zipperFine powders clog an ordinary track. This profile clears itself, so protein, flour and spice still seal after a dozen openings.
Hand opening a child-resistant zipper on a stand-up pouch with the opening sequence printed beside it
Child-resistantTwo-action closure with the sequence printed on the back. Required for edibles and cannabis in most markets.
Close-up of a round one-way degassing valve fitted to the front of a white stand-up pouch
Degassing valveFresh-roasted coffee gives off CO2 for days. This vents it without letting oxygen back in.
Kraft stand-up pouch with a clear rectangular window showing the product inside
WindowsRectangular, oval, or cut to your own shape. On digital we can cut any outline; on foil the window is de-metallized so the barrier around it stays intact. Worth it when the product is the argument, but it costs you barrier across that area.

Easy-tear lineLaser scored or perforated across the header, so the bag opens in a straight line without scissors.
White stand-up pouch held open showing a black hook-and-loop closure strip inside the mouth
Hook-and-loop closureA wide press-together seal for bulk bags and anything opened and closed daily.
Close-up of a V-shaped tear notch cut into the edge of a white stand-up pouch header
Tear notchA small V cut at the edge of the header. Sits above the zipper, so the strip tears away and the zipper below is untouched.
Close-up of the rounded top corner of a white stand-up pouch beside the zipper track
Rounded cornersSoftens the profile and stops corners catching or curling on a shelf. A small change that makes a bag feel finished.
Raised gloss spot varnish logo on a matte white surface, catching light against the flat matte ground around it
Matte and gloss varnishA spot varnish over a matte ground, so a logo or panel catches light while the rest of the bag stays flat.
A woman's hand resting against the front of a matte black stand-up pouch, showing the velvety soft touch surface
Soft touch filmA velvety matte surface that resists fingerprints. It changes how the bag feels in the hand rather than how it looks on shelf.

Less material,
less freight,
less waste

The environmental case for flexible packaging is mostly about what you do not use. These are the parts we can stand behind.

80%

Less material than rigid

A pouch uses roughly a fifth of the raw material a jar, tin or rigid tub needs to hold the same product.

Flat

A carton, not a pallet

Empty pouches ship and store flat. The freight and warehouse footprint is a fraction of rigid packaging, before a single unit is filled.

How your stand up pouches get printed

Pouch.me manufactures custom printed stand up pouches on two presses. Both print edge to edge across front, back and gusset. No white border, no label applied afterwards.

Digital printing: short runs and frequent changes

No plates, so setup costs nothing and a design change is cheap. Digital stand up pouch printing suits brands testing a product, running several flavours, or ordering from 100 bags. Prints on clear, matte, kraft and metalized film.

Gravure printing: volume, reorders and exact color

Engraved cylinders, so there is tooling to make first, and it pays back over larger runs and repeat orders. Gravure is the only route to exact Pantone matching, spot matte varnish, metallic inks, hot foil stamping and de-metalized windows on foil.

What we need from your artwork

Vector files are ideal. We send back a dieline with the seal areas, gusset and bleed marked, so you can see exactly which part of the printed rectangle ends up on the face of the bag. If you only have a logo, our designers build the rest.

Minimums, and what moves the price

Pouch.me is a low minimum stand up pouch manufacturer. Custom printed stand up pouches start at 100 units, with no setup fee on digital. Minimums are set by construction: pillow, flat and stand-up bags start at 100, and side gusset, quad seal and flat bottom start at 500.

Get your price

The five things that change your quote

  • Quantity. The biggest lever. Film and setup spread across the run, so unit cost drops steeply as volume rises.
  • Size. You are buying film by area. A taller bag costs more than a wider one of the same volume.
  • Material. Foil is the most expensive barrier, metalized gets close for less, kraft and clear sit below both.
  • Press. Digital has no plates, so short runs and design changes are cheap. Gravure adds tooling up front and pays it back on volume, reorders and exact Pantone matching.
  • Extras. Zippers, valves, spouts, handles and windows each add cost and each add a step on the filling line.

What is already included

Design assistance, prepress, proofing and shipping are free on every order. No setup charge on digital, no artwork fee, no charge for the dieline.

Sometimes the answer is a different bag

A stand up pouch handles most retail food, powders and anything that has to close again after opening. Where it does not, here is the format to use instead.

Plain white flat bottom pouch standing upright with a square base and side panels

A square base and more capacity in the same footprint

Flat bottom pouches

Five printable panels and a true flat base. Holds more, stands better half empty, costs more to tool.

Plain white side gusset coffee bag with folded sides and a fold-over bottom

The classic fold-over roastery bag with a tin tie

Side gusset bags

Sides expand as you fill. Traditional coffee shape, no zipper.

Plain white quad seal bag showing four sealed corner seams and a square profile

Four crisp corner seams and a bag that stacks

Quad seal pouches

A square profile without the block bottom. Common for coffee and pet food.

Plain white pillow pouch snack bag sealed at top and bottom

Something opened once and finished, with no zipper needed

Pillow pouches

The simplest and cheapest wrap to run and to fill.

Plain white flat pouch with three sealed edges and no gusset

A flat, light product that does not need to stand

Flat pouches

Three seals, no gusset, less material.

Common questions

Will it actually stand up when it is filled?

Yes. That is what the bottom gusset is for. Fill to between 70 and 90 percent of capacity and the base spreads into a stable oval. Fill well below that and it leans, which is why sizing matters more than it looks.

What size do I need?

Tell us the product and the fill weight and we will calculate it. Size is driven by volume, not weight, and how densely your product packs decides that. Coffee, popcorn and protein powder of the same weight need three quite different bags.

What is the minimum order?

One hundred per design on digital print. A three-flavor range is three lots of 100, and each design can run a different quantity above that. Flat and pillow pouches also start at 100. Side gusset, quad seal and flat bottom bags start at 500 per design. Gravure, for long runs and exact Pantone color, has a higher minimum that depends on bag size, and we quote it per job.

Can I have a window?

Yes, in any shape your artwork supports. On clear film we leave the area unprinted, and that costs nothing extra. On kraft the window is cut out of the paper. Foil bags can take a window too, but that build needs a larger run, and we quote its minimum per job. A window has less barrier than the rest of the bag, so keep it small and avoid it for anything light-sensitive.

Can a stand-up pouch go in the freezer?

Yes, with the right structure. Standard film can turn brittle in the cold, so we spec a cold-rated sealant, and our production team confirms the build, including whether it needs a nylon layer. Say so up front and we build the right laminate. Start at frozen food bags.

Is the film food safe?

Yes. The layer against your product is food-grade polyethylene or cast polypropylene, and the print sits on the outside of the laminate with the barrier layers in between. We can supply a Certificate of Analysis, a food contact declaration and a safety data sheet on request. If your market has a specific compliance requirement, raise it at quote stage and we will confirm the structure against it.

How is this different from a flat bottom pouch?

A stand-up pouch has a folded oval base and three printable panels. A flat bottom pouch has a true square base and five. Flat bottom holds more in the same footprint and stands better half empty; a stand-up pouch uses less material and less tooling, and is the more economical build for most retail products.

What do you need from me to quote?

The product, the fill weight, and roughly what you want it to look like. Artwork helps but is not required to get a price. Plenty of brands come to us with a logo and nothing else.

Are these mylar bags?

Same thing, different name. Mylar is a brand name for polyester film, and mylar bags are lined with a metallized version of it. That is the barrier layer in our standard spec. When someone asks for a custom mylar bag they usually mean a foil-lined stand-up pouch with a resealable zipper. That is this page, and they start at 100 per design.

Tell us what you are packing

Send the product, the fill weight and roughly what you want it to look like. Pouch.me comes back with a recommended specification, a dieline and a price.
